Scarlett Johansson Talks About Her Children's "Hectic" Back-to-School Season

by - November 18, 2025

Scarlett Johansson has a lot on her plate.

In addition to making her directorial debut with her new film Eleanor the Great, the 40-year-old—who shares son Cosmo, 4, with husband Colin Jost as well as daughter Rose, 10, with ex Romain Dauriac—has also been juggling the chaos of back-to-school season.

“It's hectic,” Scarlett told  News’ Francesca Amiker at the North American premiere of Eleanor the Great at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. “Oh my gosh, my daughter's school started the day after Labor Day, which I think is rude, actually. So I'm calling out her school.”

“It's rude,” she quipped. “You started the day after Labor Day, and I was not prepared. It’s been a very, very busy time.”

Indeed, the Black Widow star has had her hands full directing her new film, which stars June Squibb, 95, as well as real holocaust survivors in the retelling of their stories.

“I have so many wonderful memories of being on set," Scarlett recalled of her time working on the project. “I made this film with my producing partner, Jonathan [Lia]and our other partner, Keenan [Flynn], and we laughed so much behind the scenes.”

Along with all the good times they shared on set, the most rewarding part was creating such a “moving” film.

“There's a lot of very deep, deep dramatic work that the actors are doing,” Scarlett explained. “And in between all of that, you have to laugh because otherwise you cry. So we were just in hysterics all the time.”

She added, “Just being with my friends and making this movie every day was wonderful and fun.”

And while she has yet to say if she’ll be letting her kids watch Eleanor the Great, she’s previously teased which of her movies she’s excited for them to see, namely, Jurassic World: Rebirth.
