Despite its digital debut, Scarlett Johansson "Jurassic World Rebirth" smashed the action GOAT with a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Despite having debuted on PVOD platforms sooner than expected, Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth retained a spot on the top 10 charts at the box office. The movie has virtually no chance of passing the coveted $1 billion mark worldwide anymore, especially now that it’s available to watch at home and is being booted out of theaters. But it managed to pass what will likely be It reached its final global box office milestone in its sixth weekend, and, in doing so, overtook a handful of past hits.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rebirth is the seventh installment of the landmark Jurassic Park franchise, which began in the 1990s with Steven Spielberg’s modern classic film. Rebirth’s $800 million global haul means that it has now overtaken both Deadpool and Deadpool 2, the all-time classic Spider-Man 2, Fast and Furious 6, and the landmark action film Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

Released in 2018, the sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise grossed over $790 million worldwide. It’s now regarded as one of the greatest action movies of all time and is sitting at a near-perfect 98% Rotten Tomatoes score. Fallout remains the top-grossing installment of the Mission: Impossible series, starring Tom Cruise. The MI franchise recently came to an end (at least for now) with the commercially underwhelming Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning, directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

With around $7 billion in combined box office revenue, the Jurassic Park franchise is one of the most successful IPs in history. Universal also makes billions from it through amusement parks and merchandise. In other words, it will probably take an actual meteor to bring it to an end. Rebirth is expected to launch a new trilogy of movies, although there has been no update about future installments yet. You can watch the film at home, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
